¨ Commissioning & Retrocomissioning Building commissioning is a systematic process of ensuring that a building performs in accordance with the design intent, contract documents, and the owner's operational needs. Due to the sophistication of building designs and the complexity of building systems constructed today, commissioning is necessary, but not automatically included as part of the typical design and construction process. Commissioning helps the owner achieve the best results for the money spent on design and construction. Proper commissioning includes comprehensive startup, testing of systems, adjusting and balancing, and checking their integration. Commissioning also involves improved training for the owner so that operating staff are better prepared to operate systems efficiently and safely. Retrocommissioning (a type of commissioning for existing buildings) involves investigating, analyzing, and optimizing the performance of building systems by improving their operation and performance over time. Retrocommissioning helps make the building systems perform efficiently and interactively to meet the owner’s current facility requirements.
